Review - The Best Goodbye by Abbi Glines

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Abbi Glines comes the next sizzling novel in the Rosemary Beach series, featuring well-known playboy and Blaire’s half brother, Captain.

“The look on Rose’s face had screamed that she was hiding something. Hell, she’d practically run away from me. There was something to that. I knew there was . . . “

After ten years in the employ of a mysterious crime boss, River “Captain” Kipling is ready to leave his sordid past—and his cover occupation as an upscale restaurateur—behind him. The only thing standing in the way of his “retirement” is his commitment to launch a new restaurant in the resort town of Rosemary Beach. With his sister, Blaire, nearby, Captain can delay his dream of running a humble bar on the waterfront, but the unwanted attentions of his head server, Elle, have him itching to get out.

Until he notices Rose Henderson, the new server at the restaurant. All he knows about the pretty redhead with the cute glasses is that she’s a hardworking single mom from Oklahoma. But there’s something overly familiar about her laugh…something strange about the way she looks at Captain…

You can’t tell your heart to stop loving someone. I’d been trying that for years, simply to ease the ache of losing him.

Rose has just moved to Rosemary Beach and is working for Captain at a restaurant he is starting up for Arthur Stout. We immediately learn that she moved there with another agenda, to see River/Captain. River and Addy knew each other ten years ago when she was in foster care and lived with his family. Since she isn’t sure she wants Captain to know it’s her, she takes necessary means to disguise herself and changes her name to Rose.

If you are following this series you know Captain isn’t allhearts and flowers, he has a dark side. So when Addy meets him again, ten years later, he isn’t the same boy he was before. He is rude, difficult and brash. While Captain isn’t the nicest guy regardless, he is even worse to Rose because she reminds him of Addy. The love of his life who was taken from him.

I am not a huge fan of second chances romances, I am always frustrated by what originally separated the couple. However, in this case it made complete sense and instead of being frustrated I really felt for River and Addy. I loved how River was with Addy, she brought out the best in him. I love that Addy was a stronger female character. She was loving, protective and put her situation first.

Abbi Glines books are my some of my favorites. I fell in love with Abbi’s stories when I read my first one years ago and I have been a diehard fan ever since. I love how she brings these characters to life and builds this world that feels real. While this wasn’t my favorite Abbi story, I still loved it. I loved the twist and the buildup for Colt’s story. If you are a fan of the Rosemary Beach Series I definitely recommend jumping into this one!
