Review - Mack Daddy by Penelope Ward

mack daddy available

From New York Times bestselling author, Penelope Ward, comes a sexy, STANDALONE second-chance romance.

They called him Mack Daddy. No, seriously, his name was Mack. Short for Mackenzie. Thus, the nickname. Perfect, right?

So was he: perfect. The perfect physical male specimen.

At the private school where I taught, Mack Morrison was the only man around in a sea of women.

Everyone wanted a piece of the hot single father of the sweet little boy.

I was riddled with jealousy, because they didn’t know that—to me—he was much more.

They didn’t know about our past.

He’d chosen my school for his son on purpose, because Mack and I, we had unfinished business.

As my friend Lorelai so eloquently put it: “Unfinished business between two people who are clearly attracted to each other is like an eternal case of blue balls.” And I was suffering in pain from my case.

I was still intensely attracted to Mack. I tried to resist him, immersing myself further into a relationship with another man just to protect my heart.

Not to mention, getting involved with a parent was strictly against school rules. But seeing Mack day in and day out was breaking me down.

And soon I might be breaking all the rules.

Author's note – Told in alternating points of view, Mack Daddy is a full-length standalone novel.

My 5 Star Review

Penelope Ward and a single dad, where do I sign up? These are two things I absolutely love. Ward’s sexy, fun books and single dads. I legit couldn’t wait to start Mack Daddy! This story gave me much more than I originally bargained for and I loved all the feels!

The story is told in dual point of view so we get to see both Mack and Frankie’s thoughts. I definitely appreciated that in Mack Daddy because it is somewhat a second chance love story and I always need to feel the buy-in from both characters.

When Mack and Frankie met almost a decade ago they were complete opposites. Mack was finishing school, a partier and looked like a model. Frankie was more introverted and sort of dorky. However, these two hit it off quickly and despite Mack’s long distance relationship, these two became fast friends. Like all good friendships in books their connection eventually leads to them both wanting more. Like I said Mack is in a relationship with a girl back home in DC and Frankie isn’t the kind of girl to ever make a move on a taken man.

I won’t go into the who, what, or why, but fast forward eight years later and Mack is back in Boston and his child is in Frankie’s class. Frankie’s heart stops when she sees him again, but she has so many questions and uncertainty regarding him. The is told with flashbacks so we are able to see the past and what led them to where they are now. I loved how the story moved from the past to present at just the right times and kept me eager to turn the page for answers.

This story was just fantastic! I loved Mack and his dedication to his family and towards Frankie. There were so many super sweet moments that had me smiling from ear to ear. I loved Mack’s stories and how showed Frankie he never forgot about her. I loved how Frankie was thoughtful, genuine and honest. I felt for these two and the circumstances they found themselves in. I went into this story thinking it would super fun, cute, but Ward delivered even more with tons of feels. Absolutely recommend!
